You’ve committed a crime in a kingdom, and the king lets you choose one punishment from the four options below:
Option 1
Go to prison for two year. You’ll spend the year doing hard labor, like breaking rocks or cleaning sewers, with limited time outdoors. Meals are basic, and you’ll have minimal contact with others.
Option 2
Draw a card from a deck of cards (no jokers). If you draw a Jack, you’ll be sentenced to death immediately. (There are 4 Jacks in a deck of 52 cards, giving you a 1 in 13 chance of drawing your doom.) However, if you draw any other card, you will be released immediately without any further punishment.
Option 3
Eat a pile of human feces, about the size of a bowl.
Option 4
Pay a fine of 400,000 dollars. Until you pay it all off, you can only spend money on basic food and rent in poor conditions. For food, you get one bowl of rice per meal with some vegetables, but no meat. You can’t buy anything else.
