Quitting Sugar: Day 8

Today was a failed day for quitting sugar. I didn’t get around to lunch until way too late. I got overly hungry, my blood sugar dropped too low, and my hands started shaking. Around 2 p.m., I immediately went to a restaurant and quickly ordered roasted pork over rice, but it took time for the food to break down into blood sugar and take effect. I couldn’t stop the shakes and felt awful, so I grabbed a bubble tea with less sugar and drank about 4/5 of it. Then, I started to feel better, and my hands steadied. Ever since, I’ve been feeling sinful for the rest of the day.

Lesson learned: never let myself get overly hungry; it just makes me eat more and crave sugar. I’ll count today as a cheat day, though I’m hoping these happen only once every few weeks or, ideally, not at all—I’m not a believer in cheat days.

  1. This was interesting! I understand it’s very important to eat on time, so you don’t feel shaky and need sugar. Also, I like your lesson about ‘cheat days.’ I agree that if we have too many, it’s harder to quit something! Hope next time you don’t get too hungry.
